and how to take care of your patched garment
save it for later hereif you don't find an answer to your question, email us at
It all starts from contacting us with an idea (hello@trashicouture.com / IG DM). You can come to us with your own ideas, or take a look at our Archive to get inspired.
Generally we will accept any commissions that we:
1. Can do with our current gear/space/skill set
2. Have the time and possibility to concentrate to at the time
3. Can source the materials (locally) for.
When these conditions have been met, the process continues with planning and going through the idea together, choosing the materials, and techniques that will be used. At this point an estimate for the price will be calculated (note that we will reserve the right to fair changes in the final price), and you will pay a deposit. When the initial plan and the price estimate has been accepted and the deposit is payed, we'll move onto the materials.
Generally, the for custom works it is possible to either:
1. Use materials from your own closet (always our recommendation), or
2. We can provide materials from our own storage (provided that we have suitable materials for the project in question at the time of order), or
3. Source them for you (for an extra fee).
If we have chosen to use materials from your own closet, next step is to deliver the garments/textiles to us. Or if we have agreed to source the materials for you, we will do some meticulous second hand shopping/sorting through our own stashes and local 'free to take' boxes to find the right type of materials for the project.
After the materials have been sourced, we can begin the production. We will be in contact with you throughout the process, making it possible for you to become a part of the customisation process and having an effect to the end product.
Once the custom piece is ready, you may pay the bill, and once the payment comes through the item will be shipped to you.
We use only locally sourced, recycled and/or fabric waste materials*.
For example, we salvage discarded garments from local recycling centres and 'free to take' boxes. We favor the kind of materials that would be unusable as is, but with a little care and imagination could still hold in the circulation for years. We also source unwanted garments from local people's wardrobes. Occasionally we also buy materials from local second hand shops.
*With the exception of sometimes using virgin materials such as clasps, rivets, zippers, etc., although we only buy these parts new if we cannot source them second hand locally.
For custom work it is possible to either use materials from your own closet (always our first, recommended option), or we can provide materials from our own storage (if we have suitable materials), or we can source them for you (for an extra fee).
Our prices are determined by fair hourly wage for our skilled labour, difficulty level of the project, material costs, country fees, equipment overhead, marketing and product development.
We want to offer truly sustainable and ethical garments, which requires that we pay ourselves a fair price for the work that we do.
Since we are working with recycled and salvaged materials, which often lack the original labels and markings as the washing labels are often cut off, we don't always know the exact material composition of the textiles we use as materials for our garments.
When the original markings are available, we restate them in the care instructions. When these markings are not available, we use the expression various fibers, with or without other markings. (For example, if a garment has cotton mixed with some elastic but the original label is missing, we state it as cotton, various fibers).
Working with fabric waste/recycled materials means that each and every garment is truly unique, and cannot be replicated as is.
However, a custom piece in a similar style can be reproduced when the suitable materials can be found. You can check out the different styles we've created in the past from our 'Archive' page, and contact us if you'd like to have your own TRASHI COUTURE custom piece.
We are open to all kinds of creative collaborations with artists, designers, and brands.
Our specialty is sustainable and ethical merchandise for artists and brands. We also love doing performance outfits, wearable art projects, and generally anything a little over-the-top and outside-the-box.
Send us a message if you have ideas and are interested in collaborating with us!
